Groove for a Good Cause

The Okanagan’s newest concert The Groove celebrates Electronic music from around sundown on Saturday August 28, 2010 from until sun up the next morning. Half the event’s proceeds go to Santas Anonymous who have been “Putting Big Smiles on Little Faces” for generations. The SA Society (this chapter is based in Vernon) help children up to 12 years of age with birthday and Christmas gifts of either new or gently used toys and games. They are 100% donation based and operate year round.

The Groove features some 20+ DJs and visuals artists performing at 2 stages. Most are local and some are trekking from Vancouver, Calgary, and Saskatchewan to show us how to really rock out. The location where all the fun is happening is the great outdoors near Winfield BC where you can dance under the stars for a good cause. To keep things exciting and anonymous, directions and a map to the venue will be posted to their website 24 before the show. The Groove.

Flatland Funk, a Regina-based duo who run Epidemic Records, take to the “memorial stage” at 12AM—1:30AM. They deliver roof-raising and booty-shaking sounds like Electro, Fidget, and Speed Garage. You can browse their tunes here on their Soundcloud artist page. Calgary’s Freddy J who rocked Shambhala‘s Fractal Forest stage a few weekends ago performs right afterward. He is known for his gritty, wobbly beats and hard-hitting basslines. Download his latest mix “The BIG Chill” here and pop that in your car stereo for the drive up to the show.

Online tickets are sold out! You can groove on down to Hemp City at 526A Bernard Avenue in Kelowna or head to Kush Organics at 3004 31st Street, Vernon for $15 advance tickets. If you don’t get a ticket ahead of time, don’t sweat as admission at their gate door is $20.

There is ample space for camping so arrive early to make good use of daylight hours to pitch your tent before you get your boogie on. The gate opens at 7PM and if you arrive before 10PM, be sure to say “Hi!” to yours truly! I’m working a gate shift early in the night. There will be a concession on-site with basics but please to plan ahead and pack some water and snacks. No open fires this time of year of course! Please remember this is a non-alcohol event.

This event is more than a year in the making and has all the right elements for a memorable night. Be sure to join The Groove on Facebook to stay up to date.
