14th Annual Okanagan AIDS Walk

The Living Positive Resource Center is proud to announce and host the popular 14th Annual Okanagan AIDS Walk presented by Interior Savings. This year’s event is taking place Sunday September 19th and will kick off with a pancake breakfast held in Kerry Park, a new location for the event, at 9:00am.

The Okanagan AIDS Walk is one of the original walks taking place in Kelowna which is now joined by the legions of other worthy hikes, walks, and runs supporting health related organizations in the community and in the province. To make this year’s event stand out they are incorporating a RED theme which will feature prizes for the Reddest individual, Reddest team, top fundraisers, and of course great door prizes for participation.

There is also another AWESOME component to this year’s event which makes it stand out from the pack. Kelowna’s own Kelsey Serwa and City Council Kevin Craig are this year’s Co-Hosts. If you don’t know these names you must live under a rock, but I’ll fill in the blanks to help you out!

Kelsey Serwa is a 20 year old Kelowna native who most recently received a lot of media attention for competing in the 2010 Olympic Games held in Vancouver. Kelsey is a Ski Cross racer who won the 2009 FIS Ski Cross Rookie of the Year award and finished an impressive 5th place at this year’s Olympics.

Joining Kelsey in co-hosting is Kevin Craig who is a community oriented guy who has successfully become Kelowna’s youngest Council member ever! Kevin has brought a new and welcomed perspective to City Council and has also intrigued younger generations into getting more involved in local decision making.

All monies raised at the event will stay in the community for the fight against AIDS. Funds raised are used to subsidize emergency housing and utilities, medical fees and medications, medical transportation, annual client functions such as Christmas dinners and hampers, and prevention and education program.
