The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to announce a special weekend art workshop that will offer instruction by a well-respected local artist. Developing Ideas and Images will be held on Saturday, February 18, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Sunday, February 19, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at the Kelowna Art Gallery, and will be facilitated by local artist Jim Kalnin. During this mixed-media workshop, participants will have the opportunity to enhance their art through the exploration of a wide range of media and techniques. Each person will be encouraged to interpret and develop projects in an individual way, with the goal of finding and developing deeper levels of creative response within him/herself.

Jim Kalnin has lived in and around the Okanagan Valley for the past thirty years, where he spent over twenty years teaching art at UBCO. About his art Kalnin says, “My art work has mainly been a response to the individual people and cultures I have met, the spectacular planet we live on, my social, political and environmental concerns, as well as vague wonderings about the meaning of it all. The styles and media I use vary greatly as I have often had a desire to try out everything.” Developing Ideas and Images will be heavily influenced by Kalnin’s philosophy and creative style.

Developing Ideas and Images is part of a series of weekend educational opportunities organized by the Kelowna Art Gallery that will feature well-known and respected local art professionals, which also include Alex Fong, and Briar Craig. “Opportunities like these are rare, and we hope the artistic community will embrace the rare chance to study at the Gallery with masters of their craft,” says Kelowna Art Gallery Head of Public Programming, Renée Burgess.

The cost of registration for Developing Ideas and Images is $105.00 plus tax for gallery members, and $135.00 plus tax for non-members; some supplies are included. Those who wish to register should call the Gallery at (250) 762-2226.

The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water Street in downtown Kelowna. For more information about current exhibitions, public programming or special events, please visit the Kelowna Art Gallery online at kelownaartgallery.com.
