It’s a 3-day count down until Leon Night Market and Awesome Okanagan in association with Surf Side California present: the 1st edition of the Food Truck Culture Rally. The rally, located at 264 Leon Avenue, kicks off on October 1st from 4-10pm with shopping and food from Kelowna’s best fashion and food trucks. The trucks attending throughout the weekend include: Surf Side California, Crasian, Chick Chick Boom, Peter Ze German, Angelina’s, Mustard Tiger, Express Juice, Perch Traveling Boutique, Ogopogo Donuts and Scooters Ice Cream.

We’ve had so much positive response to our Food Truck Culture Rally that we’ve added a few enhancements! The festival has been extended for 2 more days!!! That’s right it’s a whole weekend extravaganza! The Food Truck Culture Rally will open again on Friday Oct. 2nd and Saturday Oct. 3rd from 4-10pm. If you can’t make it on Thursday, or need an excuse not to cook dinner 3 days in a row, then we’ve got you covered.

The Food Truck Culture Rally has added a beverage garden with a variety of beer, cider and spirits to pair with the food selections available over the course of the 3-day festival until 9pm.

As stated by organizer Quinn Best “The Food Truck Culture Rally is a community event designed to bring Kelowna together and celebrate local businesses while also providing an opportunity for the whole community to take part in helping to revitalize Leon Avenue”.  Awesome Okanagan and Leon Night Market have paired up with the Kelowna Gospel Mission to create a positive change to the neighborhood and we’re asking for your help. The rally is a free event, but we encourage everyone who is coming to make a minimum $2 or clothing donation. The Kelowna Gospel Mission are in need of the following items: socks, winter gloves, men’s blue jeans, razors & shaving cream, cough lozenges, Kleenex, toothbrushes & toothpaste, deodorant, men’s long johns and men’s & women’s underwear. Partial proceeds will go towards the Kelowna Gospel Mission and revitalizing Leon Avenue.

“The Food Truck Culture Rally is creating a positive movement on Leon Avenue,” says Quinn Best. “We’re inviting the community to join our three-day event to support local businesses, the Kelowna Gospel Mission and shed light on an area of Kelowna that needs some TLC”.

Street Fest to Celebrate UBCO Academic Year

UBCO has uniquely discovered how to celebrate and announce the start of 2015’s academic year. The students at the University of British Columbia Okanagan are organizing a free ‘Street Fest’ on September 12th from 3:00 – 8:00pm, located downtown in Kerry Park (next to the sails). Starting university has never been so much fun, and the best part…. everyone is welcome! If you have ever wanted to relive your university days, September 12th is the day to pull out your old college sweaters and celebrate UBCO.

“A big street fest will return to downtown Kelowna thanks to organizers at UBCO.

On Saturday, September 12th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. the third annual Street Fest will take place in Kerry Park. Students are returning for another school year and to make things a bit more exciting for some, the party will help celebrate the new academic year.

The fest will be a chance for those, new and returning, to have some fun and explore downtown Kelowna while meeting others in the community. The street party will include a road hockey tournament, yoga and Zumba demos, food trucks, and popular local bands.

“Everyone in the community is invited to join our students at Kerry Park,” said Ian Cull, Associate Vice-President of Students. “We look forward to Street Fest each September. This year it is also part of our community celebration recognizing the 10th anniversary of our UBC Okanagan campus and UBC’s centennial.”

The event is free to attend with everyone welcome to participate by the sails, just off Bernard Avenue.” – Kelownanow

As a support of UBCO, The Habitat is offering $5 tickets to all students for September 12th’s live music performance of The Royal Foundry with Mark Irving. Valid student ID must be presented.
