Slopes for Hope at Silver Star Mountain Resort

The Canadian Cancer Society brings Slopes for Hope Silver Star, on February 22nd, a family friendly ski-a-thon in which participants attempt to ski or snowboard the vertical distance of Mount Everest in one day (29,029 feet). Sign up as an individual for a personal challenge, or put in a team of four and split the distance between team members. Come up with a team name, wear costumes, and challenge your friends, family or coworkers!

There will be an après-event with entertainment and amazing prizes awarded at the end of the day, including the Sir Edmund Hillary Award for the skier or boarder who racks up the most vertical distance!

We ask that participants fundraise in advance to support the Canadian Cancer Society, with a minimum donation to participate of $25 for adults and $10 youth. All participants who raise a minimum of $50/youth and $100/adult will be eligible for a half price lift ticket the day of the event, courtesy of Silver Star Mountain Resort.

Funds raised through the event will help the Society fund vital cancer research, leading prevention initiatives, and compassionate support programs for people facing cancer today. To learn more about what the Canadian Cancer Society does in our community and the services we provide go to www.cancer.ca

Holy Ship! Awesome Okanagan and CREAM Salons are eager to board the high seas* (otherwise known as Habitat – 248 Leon Ave) together with some of the freshest talent the A-OK has to offer. So don your nautical clothes, it’s all hands on deck for “High Tide,” the 2013 Summer Fashion Show & Fundraiser. We had such a great time at Wild Heart with local clothing store Man + Woman we’ve decided to pair with them again. This nautical themed, sun-bleached party will be right in the heat of the summer and evoke the nostalgia of ’50s/’80s yacht culture. Don’t forget to dress up! Navy, tan and white are easy colours, red and gold are great accents, pastels are in season.

Anchoring the evening will be the one (sea)man looping act Windmills. As usual there will be a photobooth with photographers (pics or it didn’t happen!) to make sure all your friends know what they missed out on. Bring your dancing boat shoes.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Proceeds from the event will go to the Elizabeth Fry society.

Tickets include one door-prize ticket (more will be available for purchase at the event) and are available at CREAM Kelowna (#2-1771 Cooper Road), CREAM Madison (1389 Ellis Street), CREAM West Kelowna (#313-3021 Louie Drive), Man + Woman (#1365-2271 Harvey Avenue in Orchard Park Shopping Centre), Mosaic Books (411 Bernard Avenue) and Leo’s Video (2680 Pandosy Street).

Prizes include:

  • Two (2) $20 gift cards to DunnEnzies Pizza
  • Two (2) tickets to any upcoming Habitat Event (value depends on event selected)
  • Haircuts from CREAM Salons (valued at $55)
  • An ORIBE shampoo/conditioner from CREAM Salons (valued at $70)

Fashionate: A-OK Wild Heart

Last week my team and I at Loyal Hair Therapy partnered with Awesome Okanagan to throw you A-OK Wild Heart- a fall fashion show. We wanted to show off all the local talent we have to offer when it comes to fashion. Man + Woman was our feature store, showing you what’s hot for your staple winter wear. We topped off the night with a little sass from Frakas and featured 3 very different looks you could wear during the holiday season!

Man+Woman featured fidelety demin, bb dakota tops and an assortment of beautiful real leather bags, just to name a few. They showed off you can dress warm, comfortable and casual while still setting the tone of what’s hot in fashion.  Changing your regular jeans into a pair of high waisted skinny’s with chelsea boots, a black tank and a biker jacket can turn an everyday outfit into a fashion forward look.

Man+Woman also features men’s clothing that will modernize any man in your life!

Frakas featured three different options for the holiday season; showing off you can wear pants and still be dressed up to the nines. Paring leather with silk, or lace with satin, combining different fabrics within your holiday outfit will set you apart from your co-workers.

A-OK also featured the seasons hottest hair trends. Braids were very dominant on the Runway during the evening and these  can be easily transformed looks into your holiday party looks! Rockabilly is back stronger than ever with a twist, a smooth roll with a textured braid or curls will modernize your look instantly.

Our goal for the evening was to Raise some money for H.O.P.E, bring the amazing community together and show off our local talent! We hope it inspired you to shop local and support the Awesome Okanagan that we live in!

Visit Man + Woman in the mall or Frakas (Located next to Urban Fair) for all of your holiday shopping needs!

Wild Heart Features Live Auction

Tonight at Habitat (248 Leon Avenue) we’re throwing our second official party called Wild Heart. We’ve been talking about it on Facebook and Twitter a lot and we’re very excited about the whole prospect. We’ll be raising money for a charity called H.O.P.E. Outreach and their goal is to help out homeless or sexually exploited women in Kelowna’s downtown core.

To that end we’re very lucky to have some local businesses and artists donate items for a live auction that you can bid on right after the fashion show so that we can raise a bit of extra dough over the ticket price and featured drinks (maybe even some Champagne!!) that night and try to help out a great charity doing a great thing. Some of the items that have been donated include:

  • Two Fashion Books and GC from Mosaic Books
  • A makeover package from Loyal Hair Therapy
  • Tickets to Ballet Kelowna’s first 2013 Spring Show
  • A GC to Bai Tong
  • Artwork by Matt Klasen
  • A makeup pack by a surprise donor (come to find out!)

We’re always excited to see the wonderful and supportive attitude our community and neighbors have even in tough times. We’re thrilled to be able to do something to give back to a community we care about. We’re stoked to have a great time. So grab your dancing shoes, dress up (think Mad Men! Or get edgy! Looking for inspiration tonight? Check out Lookbook.nu), bring a bit of a wallet and a great attitude and get ready to embrace your Wild Heart!

Wild Heart

We make assumptions based on what we see on the surface, will we ever know our true Wild Heart?

Awesome Okanagan is thrilled to be working with fresh, local salon Loyal Hair Therapy to present “Wild Heart,” a 2012 Fall/Winter Fashion Show with heart. Including a local clothing store like Man + Woman and supporting a local charity like H.O.P.E. Outreach is a no-brainer when showing off what the Okanagan has to offer. Come early for the Jail Bird Art Show (which will still be hanging during the event) and stick around for all the excitement when we mix a touch of 1960’s class (think Twiggy, Mad Men, Bridget Bardot) with the primal energy within us all (you like leaves, antlers and real twigs, right?).

If you missed our last party you won’t want to miss this one! Save the date, November 16, 2012.

Where: Habitat (248 Leon Avenue, Kelowna)
When: Friday, November 16th – 8:00 PM
How Much: $10
Tickets: Leo’s Video (2680 Pandosy St), Mosaic Books (411 Bernard Avenue) & Loyal Hair Therapy (102-2106 Harvey Avenue).
