Little Jungles – Voices

Local musician Little Jungles released a video for his latest song “Voices” and re-edited Andrei Tarkovsky’s The Mirror to the song. Happy Halloween!

OSIF presents 4th Annual Horrorfest

Last Friday I was privy to the Okanagan Society for Independant Filmmaker‘s 4th Annual Horrorfest. They premiered 11 short, locally produced films in the horror, thriller or dark drama genre. It looks like they’ve had a chance to upload the videos to their YouTube channel as well so we thought we’d post a playlist here in case you’re looking for something scary to watch this Devil’s Night.

Dan Oig “Don’t Know What To Do”

Local musician Dan Oig has taken a radically different direction for his new sound. Leaving the world of acoustic-rock behind in favour of an unabashed pop-driven sound, Dan’s doing what he’s always wanted. He worked with Songwriter/Producer Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Andrew Allen, Victoria Duffield) to hone his new sound and up his production. Radio friendly for sure, 2013 may see some great recognition and touring for Dan. What do you think?

Wild Heart

We make assumptions based on what we see on the surface, will we ever know our true Wild Heart?

Awesome Okanagan is thrilled to be working with fresh, local salon Loyal Hair Therapy to present “Wild Heart,” a 2012 Fall/Winter Fashion Show with heart. Including a local clothing store like Man + Woman and supporting a local charity like H.O.P.E. Outreach is a no-brainer when showing off what the Okanagan has to offer. Come early for the Jail Bird Art Show (which will still be hanging during the event) and stick around for all the excitement when we mix a touch of 1960’s class (think Twiggy, Mad Men, Bridget Bardot) with the primal energy within us all (you like leaves, antlers and real twigs, right?).

If you missed our last party you won’t want to miss this one! Save the date, November 16, 2012.

Mike Edel – The Country Where I Came From

I am so thrilled that Victoria musician Mike Edel’s music video for “The Country Where I Came From” is finally officially out. I had the opportunity to watch it synced to his live performance at RockRidge Canyon as part of the PEAK Performance Project back in late August/early September. There was something about the time of the week (complete lack of sleep too I suppose), his performance and the stirring visual quality of the video that hit me. I was very much emotionally affected by the whole experience.

I was responsible for the video portion of his performance so I actually had the mp4 of the video, I kept it (sorry Mike!) and loaded it into iTunes so I could watch it at home on AppleTV at the end of that week. He asked that it not get shown anywhere outside of camp since it wasn’t being officially released until today, so keep in mind I’ve had this gorgeous beast in my possession for an entire month already and haven’t been able to share it, until now! Watch this video. Then watch it again.

Mike Edel will be performing with Vancouver’s Jordan Klassen and Joshua Smith October 25th at Habitat

Joel Plaskett at Habitat

We had a couple minutes to sit down with Nova Scotian indie rock loyalty Joel Plaskett last week after his sold-out performance at Habitat to hear about why he chose to produce his latest album “Scrappy Happiness” by recording, mixing and mastering one song per week to release, a little bit about how the reception for live music Okanagan in the Okanagan has changed since he wrote his Kelowna-blasting “I Love This Town” back in 2005 and what he thinks the most awesome part of the Okanagan is.

Jeremy Jones’ Further – “The Journey is the Reward”

Award winning producers Teton Gravity Research are pleased to announce Further, the second installment in the Jeremy Jones snowboard movie trilogy, Deeper, Further, Higher, presented by O’Neill.

Further will explore some of the world’s most remote mountain terrain while continuing Jones’ mission to camp deep in the backcountry and on the summits of unridden lines to access nearly vertical spines and wide-open powder fields. Join Jeremy and his crew as they push their minds and bodies Further.

This film will be premiering at The Paramount Theatre in Kelowna on Wednesday, October 3rd with tons of great prizes like a Day of Heli-boarding from Eagle Pass Heliskiing, A Jones Hovercraft Splitboard, lift tickets to Whitewater Ski Resort and more! A portion of the proceeds donated to the Canadian Avalance Centre and the Alpine Club of Canada – Okanagan Section

A-OK Giveaway: 2 Pairs of Tickets to Shout Out Out Out Out

Shout Out Out Out Out is coming back fresh off their performance at Keloha and we’ve got two (2) pairs (another 2) of tickets to their show this Friday (September 21st) at Habitat that we’re super eager to give YOU!

Shout Out Out Out Out is a true DIY band that do much of their projects work themselves. They produce and record their records, run a small record label that releases their records, design their own website & take their own photos.

Shout Out Out Out Out formed in the summer of 2004 and since then they’ve grown to be fully encompassed in the world of electronic music. The result is their latest album, “Spanish Moss and Total Loss,” a record they would all personally listen to and would be proud to play as DJs (yeah, they do that too).

How do you get in? Tell us why you want to go! Tell us in the comments, on our Facebook page, or Tweet at us! Maybe you caught them at Keloha, or maybe you’ve been a silent champion of them for years, we want to know! We’ll pick two (2) winners who really, really want to go to this show and send them and a friend to it! Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
